Walk for the Children, El Paso, TX.

On April 30 2021, the immigration activist organization Witness at the Border, along with a number of other sister organizations, marched six miles from the Paso del Norte International Bridge in El Paso to the gates of Fort Bliss. The walk was sparked by the outrage over the confinement of 5000 unaccompanied migrant children interned at the base, in direct contravention of US and international law. Most of these children have family or sponsors desperately trying to have them released into their custody and being stonewalled by the government. Additionally, thousands of migrant families seeking legal asylum in the US are being turned back into Mexico under an antiquated public health regulation from 1944, ‘Title 42’ which is being used a pretext for these expulsions.
